BMW presents the M 1000 RR 50 anniversary – BMW Motorrad celebrates 50 years of BMW M

BMW Motorrad presenta la M 1000 RR 50 anniversary – BMW Motorrad festeggia i 50 anni di BMW M

🇬🇧 On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of BMW M GmbH, founded in 1972 as BMW Motorsport GmbH, BMW Motorrad presents the M 1000 RR 50 Years M anniversary model in Sao Paulo Yellow and with the historic 50 Years BMW M emblem. M colors, this special edition represents the M philosophy together with the racing spirit of almost 100 years of experience in motorcycle construction by BMW Motorrad and 50 years for BMW M vehicles. The M RR 50 Years M is therefore equipped as standard of the M Competition package. In addition to the wide range of M milled parts and the exclusive M Carbon package, a lighter silver anodized aluminum swingarm, the unlock code for the GPS M tachometer, the M Endurance chain, the passenger package are part of the standard equipment and the seat cover for the passenger. By the end of 2018, BMW Motorrad had already successfully introduced the strategy of the BMW M automobile range for motorcycles and has been offering M special equipment and M Performance Parts ever since. Today, as in the past, BMW Motorrad follows the philosophy of the most powerful letter in the world: M stands for both success in racing and the fascination of high-performance BMW models, and is aimed at customers with particularly high demands on exclusivity. Last but not least, the BMW M RR is also the base bike of the BMW Motorrad World SBK Team since 2021, as well as many other race teams around the world. BMW Motorsport GmbH was founded in 1972 with the idea to bring all of BMW’s motorsport businesses together under one roof and to build high-performance racing vehicles and racing engines for motor racing. The BMW 3.0 CSL (CSL = Coupe Sport Light Construction) made its debut as the first BMW Motorsport GmbH racing car in 1973 and, on the occasion of the founding of BMW Motorsport GmbH, Robert A. Lutz, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for sales in 1972, he stated, “A company is like a human being. If he plays sports, he stays fit, enthusiastic, more effective and powerful ”. The BMW 3.0 CSL made its debut in the European Touring Car Championship in the 1973 season, together with the three BMW Motorsport colors: blue, purple and red on a white background, which still characterize it today. This color scheme, in the updated Blue – Dark Blue – Red version, can be found in the BMW M logo and BMW M vehicles to date. The legendary color combination was already found on the first BMW M road vehicles in the second half of the 1970s and also characterizes the racing vehicles that came later, along with their successes in motorsport. For example, in 1978 the M1 super sports car, and, from 1980 onwards, the Formula 1 racing cars with which Nelson Piquet won the World Championship in 1983. But it is not only since 1972, and not only in the automotive sector, that BMW writes its own successes. Extraordinary victories and innovations come from motorcycle racing. Already in the first decades of the company’s history, BMW and motorsport were linked to unforgettable names such as Ernst Jakob Henne and Georg “Schorsch” Meier. The legendary victory of “Schorsch” Meier in his supercharged BMW at the 1939 Senior Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man is unforgettable. In 1976, exactly 37 years later, Helmut Dähne and Hans Otto Butenuth celebrated fifth place in the Production TT. The two achieved the best time with their BMW R 90 S, but due to a regulation that applies to this category, they were placed fifth in the standings, behind two 250cc and two 500cc machines. However, given the fastest time, this fifth place was celebrated as a victory. 75 years after the success of “Schorsch” Meier in the Senior TT, Michael Dunlop succeeds again in 2014 in the BMW S 1000 RR. Also in the following years, the RR left its unmistakable mark in the Tourist Trophy. But the BMW M colors are also well represented on BMW off-road motorcycles. For example, on the official BMW GS with which Hubert Auriol and Gaston Rahier dominated the Paris-Dakar Rally in the early 1980s. Like no other BMW motorcycle to date, the M RR 50 Years M model carries this historic DNA.
